Easter Spending Projected to Hit Record High

Despite ongoing economic uncertainty, U.S. consumer spending for Easter is expected to reach a record $24.9 billion this year, according to a survey released Tuesday by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.

If realized, the total would surpass the previous record of $24 billion set in 2023. On average, consumers plan to spend $195.59 per person for the April 5 holiday, up slightly from $192.01 in 2023. Discount stores were cited most often as the top shopping destination among respondents.

Food is expected to account for the largest share of spending at $7.5 billion, followed by gifts at $3.9 billion, clothing at $3.7 billion, candy at $3.5 billion, and flowers at $2.2 billion.

The national survey, conducted March 2–11 among more than 7,800 adults, found that 80% of respondents plan to celebrate Easter in some way—consistent with participation levels in previous years.
