City of Elgin Bridge Projects Public Information Meeting

Learn about and provide comment on Phase I preliminary engineering and environmental studies for both the Chicago Street and Kimball Street bridges and Fox River Trail improvements.


Elgin, IL – The City of Elgin invites the community to attend a public information meeting on Thursday, July 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn about and provide comment on Phase I preliminary engineering and environmental studies for both the Chicago Street and Kimball Street bridges and Fox River Trail improvements. The event will take place at the Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL 60120.

The purpose of this public information meeting is to:

  • Provide a joint overview of the studies’ processes to the community
  • Solicit public input on the transportation issues and needs of the study areas
  • Review next steps

The public information meeting will be held as an open house format. Attendees will be able to stop by at any time during the event to view meeting materials, ask questions and provide feedback. A Spanish interpreter will also be present during the event to assist with translation.

The public can review exhibits and details about the study in advance of the meeting and provide comments at cityofelginbridgeprojects.org. The City encourages public comments by August 23, 2024, through email, mail, study website or in-person at the meeting. Comments received by August 23, 2024, will become part of the official public information meeting record.

As future phases may be financed with federal funds, the public information meeting is being held in compliance with federal and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) public involvement policy.

Section 4(f): The City of Elgin is seeking public comments on the potential effects that proposed improvements to the Kimball Street Bridge may have on the Fox River Trail, Foundry Park and Pioneer Park. These Section 4(f) properties are under the jurisdiction of the City of Elgin, are significant and publicly owned. As such, these are subject to projection under Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966. No known Section 4(f) properties will be affected by the proposed Chicago Street Bridge project.

Section 106: This meeting will also serve to involve and obtain the views of the public for purposes of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Information will be available on known historic resources that may be affected by the proposed Chicago Street Bridge project and the historic resources protection process. The City and IDOT request comments from the public on effects to historic resources to assist in consultation with the Illinois State Historic Preservation Officer. No known historic resources will be affected by the proposed Kimball Street Bridge project.
