A Pillar of the Elgin Economy-Manufacturing
Manufacturing Month Continued
As we continue to celebrate Manufacturing Month, manufacturing is one of the four major pillars of Elgin’s economy representing 11.6% of all jobs, along with Education (14.4%), Health Care (12.0%), and Professional Services (11.3%). Elgin has historically been known for its manufacturing strength, and with over 300 manufacturers continues that domination throughout the region. Manufacturing is creating inclusive growth that is maturing from the inside out as local talent is being educated and used to build momentum.
Elgin manufacturers drive the local economy to a considerable extent because they bring in money from the outside by selling products regionally, nationwide and internationally. Examples include Elgin Sweeper, Flender Corporation, Mazak, American NTN Bearing and others. They provide steady employment paying living wages.. These jobs allow residents to buy everything from houses to automobiles, and groceries to trinkets. These jobs allow people to pay for educational expenses, healthcare, legal services and travel. Manufacturing in Elgin is strong, here to stay and a pillar of our local economy. That is why we celebrate Manufacturing Month.
